Types of Business Telephone Systems
When considering a new business telephone system, there are two primary types to choose from:
On Premise VoIP: On premise phone systems have been the traditional choice for businesses for many years.
An on premise VoIP phone system is installed within your building and connected to your existing network via PoE Network Switches and Firewall. With Connection to your internet service the phone lines can be terminated to the internet to provide SIP Trunking. Much less expensive and extremely more flexible than traditional copper lines.
However, if you find yourself tied into a contract with your existing PRI, or analog copper lines, on premise VoIP phone systems will still allow for integration as well to these providers.
The system will still give you all the same features and flexibilities.
Cloud-based VoIP: Eliminates the need for on-site hardware (except for IP phones) by moving to the service provider's servers. These are also known as cloud phone systems or Hosted telephone systems.
Unlike traditional on premise phone systems the server is in the Cloud and connection is through the internet.
The cloud base system will still be connected to your existing network through PoE switches and firewall and will require a strong reliable internet service.
However, there is no onetime charge for the Server and the system is maintained by the provider.
Cloud base systems are subscription based monthly services. Have all the same features and flexibility as premise base with the additional ability to move the service quickly to another temporary locations in the event of any unforeseen disasters.
Choosing the Right Business Phone System
Navigating the myriad options for a new business telephone system can be overwhelming. To streamline your search, consider these three questions:
Do you need a comprehensive business phone system that includes physical office telephones, or could your business and staff rely solely on mobile phones?
If physical devices are required, is your internet connection fast and reliable enough to support a VoIP phone system?
If a VoIP system is feasible, do you prefer to host the equipment yourself or opt for cloud hosting?
Before investing in a new communications platform for your business, carefully evaluate your specific needs and usage expectations. For example, will your team be based in one location or will they be mobile? How many users will you be connecting?
It's essential to develop a clear understanding of the volume and type of calls you anticipate making and receiving. Consider your growth plans and invest in a business phone system that is both cost-effective and scalable to support your expansion.
